Known for her tasteful blend of new techniques and colourful harmony, Dylann Miller (b. 1995) is a composer and soprano presently based in Toronto, ON. Her work as a composer has strong roots in the Kitchener-Waterloo region where her music has been performed by ensembles including the Wilfrid Laurier’s Concert Choir, Laurier Singers, and The Maureen Forrester Singers. In June 2018, her LGBT+ focused opera, The Covenant premiered in Waterloo and Cambridge.
Her work has been recognized by awards from Arcady’s Young Composer Competition (2017), the SOCAN Foundation (2016); and participation in Array’s 2019 edition of the Young Composers Workshop in the 2018 Waterloo Region Contemporary Music Sessions.
Dylann is a founding member of The Yacht Club, a Kitchener-Waterloo based ensemble that focuses on theatrical presentation of new music. Through The Yacht Club, Dylann has had the opportunity to premiere several works as both a composer and performer, since the inception of the ensemble in 2017.
During her career as a music composition major at Wilfrid Laurier University, she served on the board of the Open Ears Festival as a student liaison from 2017 to 2018. Following the end of her tenure as an undergraduate student, Dylann is embracing opportunities as a freelance artist before commencing graduate studies in music.
